Customers demand quicker and more accurate deliveries from companies. This is nothing new. And manufacturing companies respond to this need by streamlining their processes and using new technologies. You probably know how blockchain, AI or sophisticated asset management systems are helping in this regard. (Read our article on how blockchain can enhance spare parts business.)  But what about the daily operations at the factory level? How can technology make the lives of the technicians and pickers better? Which technologies minimize human errors that occur in spare parts inventory activities? One answer can be pick to light and pick by voice technologies.

Pick to light system

Pick to light refers to the system in which the lights are embedded into the warehouse for guiding the warehouse staff. “The bins in the product racking also has an acknowledge button. So, the employees can register their interaction with the bin and create a record of product touches.”

Pick by voice system

Pick by voice system works similarly, except this time, guides the order pickers through audio. Both systems enable companies to speed up the spare parts distribution by preventing potential mistakes from happening. More importantly, while these technologies are easy to integrate and can provide instant improvement. They are likely to get more widespread as well, considering the fact that the pick-to-light system has been rated in Google Trends’ as 84 out of 100 in February, 2019.
